We are currently seeking an experienced Director of Pharmacy & Medicines to join a Scottish Trust on a locum/interim basis.

This is a senior strategic leadership position, responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership across all aspects of Pharmacy and Medicines governance, acting as the Board’s Chief Pharmacist and senior adviser on medicines and pharmacy services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and professional leadership across pharmacy services.
  • Lead medicines governance, safety, incident management and quality improvement.
  • Oversee pharmacy workforce, performance and service development.
  • Provide leadership for HEPMA/ePMA implementation, optimisation and digital medicines initiatives.
  • Support medicines reconciliation and medicines safety across transitions of care.
  • Strengthen links between hospital pharmacy, primary care, GP practices and community pharmacy.
  • Provide leadership around value-based prescribing, polypharmacy review and medicines optimisation.
  • Oversee pharmacy budget management, procurement and medicines value.
  • Provide assurance to senior management and relevant committees regarding medicines governance, risks and compliance.

Essential Requirements

  • Current GPhC registration in good standing.
  • Significant senior pharmacy leadership and management experience.
  • Extensive experience within hospital and/or system-wide pharmacy services.
  • Experience of governance of complex medicines systems.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale service change, ideally involving digital medicines/HEPMA or clinical systems redesign.
  • Demonstrable experience of budget management and delivering value-based outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of NHS Scotland medicines policies and relevant pharmacy governance frameworks.
  • Excellent strategic leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Desirable: Postgraduate leadership/management qualification, Independent Prescriber qualification and experience working within a remote or rural health board.
