Mediplacements are looking to recruit a band 7 Speech and Language Therapist for a locum position with our client in Cambridgeshire.

The pay for this position is £27-£35 per hour, and we are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible for an ongoing duration.

The post holder will have responsibility for:

  • Working independently as an Advanced Practitioner in Speech and language Therapy (SaLT) ensuring the continued service of assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with specialist speech, communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Working as part of the specialist multi-disciplinary teams across cardiothoracic services, contributing professional expertise in the management of patients with complex communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Be experienced in Instrumental assessments including Fibreoptic Endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) and Videofluroscopy alongside completion of tracheostomy competencies.
  • Delivering training to relevant staff, carers and other professionals as required.
  • Identifying and accessing appropriate CPD to a level that meets RCSLT, HCPC and service requirements.
  • To ensure the service continues to develop to meet the needs of the patients, the Trust and the Health Professional Council using education, audit and research tools.
  • Actively participating in service improvement and audit.
  • Line management of staff and support with student placements. Deputise for the Speech and Language Therapy team leader.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the identification and the onward referral to the wider multiprofessional team for additional specialist assessment and input and incorporating these results into the management of the patient.
  • To set agreed, realistic objectives and functional goals for each individual patient, monitoring and assessing progress. Within this process demonstrating excellent inter-personal skills, established negotiation skills and the ability to manage conflict.
  • To lead the assessment and reporting of VFSS and FEES.
  • To be competent in autonomously carrying out clinical swallowing and communication assessment, managing communication and swallowing difficulties in patients with tracheostomies, working alongside the multidisciplinary team, seeking support from senior team members when required.
  • To review and development methods of assessment that best meet the patient’s needs.
