Mediplacements are looking for an experienced band 6 Ward Pharmacist to work at a hospital in London.

The pay for this position is £21-£25 per hour, and we are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible for an on-going duration.

Main purpose of the job
* To participate and deliver a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to the wards within the specialities in conjunction with the Senior Specialist Pharmacist
* To promote and contribute to the education and training of pharmacy staff and/or other clinical staff rotating or working on the specialist wards

Key working relationships
* Senior Specialist Pharmacists, Dispensary Team Leader and other pharmacy staff
* Medical, Nursing and other clinical staff

Main duties and responsibilities:
* To provide clinical pharmaceutical service within the specialties to promote safe and cost-effective use of medicines. This includes attending ward rounds, ward meetings and the homecare delivery service to patients for the relevant units.
* To monitor prescribing practices in the units and provide feedback and recommendations to improve standards and guidelines.
* To support the Senior Specialist Pharmacists in developing and reviewing prescribing guidelines within the units, taking into account all relevant local and national policies and procedures
* To deputise for the Senior Specialist Pharmacists in attending unit meetings, clinical governance meetings and reviewing monthly drug expenditure where appropriate
* To prepare critical appraisals on new or unlicensed medicines for formal submissions to the Drugs and Therapeutics Committee and NCL Joint Formulary Committee.
* To provide dispensary support to ensure timely turnaround of in-patient and discharge medicines for patients within the specialities.
* To liaise with the Operational Manager, Senior Pharmacists in Dispensary and Manufacturing to identify issues and implement processes to ensure efficient and smooth delivery of medicines to the wards
* To participate in the teaching/training of pre-registration and rotational pharmacists, nursing and medical staff as appropriate
* To undertake and participate in clinical audit in the pharmacy department and within the speciality units
* To act as a role model for rotational junior pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists
* To act as educational facilitator for the Postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice as appropriate
* To participate in late duties, on call and weekend shift work.
