August is Happiness Happens Month, and while it might sound like an unusual concept to apply to a healthcare career, it raises a question that is genuinely worth sitting with for a moment.

Are you actually happy in your work right now?

Not just managing, not just getting through, but truly fulfilled, motivated, and looking forward to what you do. For allied health and health science professionals, that question can feel almost indulgent to ask. The job is important, the patients need you, and there is always more to do. Happiness can feel like a luxury compared to simply keeping up, but job satisfaction in healthcare is not a luxury at all. It is directly connected to the quality of care patients receive and the sustainability of the workforce that delivers it.

Why job satisfaction matters more than you might think
Research consistently shows that healthcare professionals who feel engaged and fulfilled in their work deliver better patient outcomes, make fewer errors, and stay in their roles longer. The inverse is equally well evidenced. Professionals who feel consistently overstretched or who have outgrown their current role may be more likely to experience burnout, consider leaving their organisation, or lose some of the enjoyment that first drew them into healthcare.

What does a fulfilling AHP career actually look like?
The answer is different for everyone, and that is precisely the point. A biomedical scientist who thrives on the technical complexity of haematology diagnostics has a very different definition of fulfilment to a community podiatrist who finds meaning in the relationships they build with patients over time. A radiographer drawn to the pace and variety of an acute hospital setting is looking for something completely different to a speech therapist who wants the depth and continuity of a specialist paediatric caseload.

There is no single version of a happy healthcare career, but there are some common threads worth reflecting on. Feeling stretched but not overwhelmed. Working in an environment where your contribution is recognised. Having enough autonomy to make clinical decisions you feel confident about. Being part of a team whose values align with your own. Doing work that feels meaningful rather than mechanical. If those things feel absent from your current role, that is worth paying attention to.

It can be worth reflecting if you:
- Feel your current role no longer plays to your strengths
- Find yourself wanting more variety or a different pace of work
- Are looking for greater flexibility or work-life balance
- Feel ready for a new challenge or specialism
- Often wonder what opportunities exist elsewhere

None of these mean healthcare is the wrong profession for you. More often, they simply suggest it might be time for a different role, team or setting.

What to do if the answer is no
Allied health and health science careers offer genuine variety, and a change of direction does not have to mean starting from scratch. The range of settings, specialisms, and working patterns available to qualified AHPs and health scientists is broader than most people realise. Locum work can be a way of exploring different settings and trusts before committing to something new, and a move from acute to community, or from permanent to flexible working, can completely change how a role feels without changing the profession itself.

At Mediplacements, we have conversations like this every day. We work with healthcare professionals who are looking for something more, something different, or simply something that fits better than what they have now, and we are not just here to fill vacancies. We are here to help you find a role where you can continue building a rewarding healthcare career.

If you work in pharmacy, you will already be aware that something significant is shifting in the way patients access medications. The growth of online prescribing services, increasing demand for treatments such as GLP-1 medications, and the wider digitalisation of healthcare are changing how patients engage with clinicians and manage their health.

When delivered responsibly, online prescribing can be an extremely positive part of the healthcare landscape. Legitimate services can make qualified clinical support more accessible, give patients greater choice and convenience, and help people receive appropriate treatment for genuine medical needs.
However, the rapid growth of the market has also made it easier for unregulated sellers, counterfeit products, and unsafe services to reach patients. This has created a more complex patient safety landscape, and pharmacists are often on the frontline of helping patients understand the difference.

Whether you work in a community pharmacy, GP practice, hospital setting, or clinical advisory role, the chances are that you are already encountering these changes in your day-to-day practice. This blog explores the opportunities presented by responsible online prescribing, the risks associated with illegitimate providers, and the important role pharmacists can play.

A rapidly evolving healthcare landscape
Online prescribing services have grown rapidly in the UK over recent years, accelerated by the pandemic-era shift towards digital healthcare and increasing demand for convenient access to treatment.

Many of these services are legitimate healthcare providers. They employ appropriately qualified clinicians, conduct proper patient assessments, prescribe licensed medications for genuine clinical reasons, and provide ongoing monitoring and follow-up.

For some patients, these services can remove significant barriers to accessing care. They may offer greater flexibility for people with demanding schedules, mobility difficulties, or limited access to local services. They can also create a more comfortable and discreet environment for discussing sensitive conditions.

However, not every provider operates to the same standard. Alongside reputable clinical services, there are websites, social media accounts, and online marketplaces selling medications without appropriate checks, prescriptions, or professional oversight.

The challenge for patients is that it is not always easy to distinguish between a responsible healthcare provider and an illegal or unregulated seller.

The MHRA has issued alerts about counterfeit versions of GLP-1 medications entering the UK market. Some have contained incorrect doses, different substances, or no active ingredient at all. These products may be advertised through social media, online marketplaces, or websites designed to resemble legitimate healthcare providers.

The same risks extend beyond GLP-1 medications to hormones, anxiolytics, painkillers, erectile dysfunction treatments, and other medications for which there is significant patient demand.

It is therefore important that concerns about illegal or unsafe sellers are not confused with the work of properly regulated online prescribing services, which can play a valuable role in expanding access to appropriate treatment.

Why patients choose online prescribing services
Patients may choose online healthcare for many entirely valid reasons. Convenience is an important factor, but it is far from the only one.

Some patients face long waiting times or have difficulty accessing appointments around work, caring responsibilities, or other commitments. Others may live in areas where specialist services are limited. Some feel more comfortable discussing sensitive health concerns through a private online consultation than in a face-to-face setting.

Online services can also provide access to clinicians with specialist knowledge in areas such as weight management, dermatology, sexual health, women's health, and men's health.

The weight management market is a particularly visible example. Demand for GLP-1 medications has grown significantly, while access through the NHS remains subject to specific clinical criteria and local service availability.

Responsible private prescribing services can help eligible patients access these treatments following an appropriate medical assessment. High-quality providers also support patients through regular reviews, dose management, side-effect monitoring, and wider lifestyle guidance.

These services should not be viewed simply as a faster route to medication. At their best, they are structured clinical services designed to provide safe, evidence-based treatment for patients with a genuine medical need.

The concern arises when patients unknowingly access medication from sellers that do not complete adequate assessments, verify important health information, or provide suitable monitoring and follow-up.

Understanding why patients choose different routes to treatment is the starting point for supporting them effectively.

Recognising responsible online prescribing
Pharmacists can help patients understand what they should expect from a reputable online prescribing service.

A responsible provider should undertake an appropriate clinical assessment before prescribing. This may include reviewing the patient's medical history, current medications, allergies, contraindications, and suitability for treatment.

Depending on the medication, the provider may also need to verify information such as the patient's identity, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, or relevant test results.

Patients should have access to qualified healthcare professionals and receive clear information about how to use their medication, possible side effects, warning signs, and when to seek further help. There should also be a clear process for ongoing reviews, reporting concerns, and adjusting or discontinuing treatment when necessary.

Legitimate providers should be transparent about the clinicians responsible for prescribing and the pharmacies supplying the medication. Patients should never be encouraged to purchase prescription-only medication through informal social media messages, unverified marketplaces, or sellers that do not require a proper consultation.

What this means for pharmacy practice
Pharmacists are uniquely placed to support patients as online prescribing becomes a more established part of healthcare.

Some practical considerations include:
- Patients may be receiving legitimate treatment from an online provider that has not yet been added to their usual medication record. Asking open questions about all prescribed, purchased, and over-the-counter medications can help identify possible interactions or duplication
- A warm, non-judgmental approach makes it easier for patients to speak honestly about where they obtained a medication and the clinical support they have received
- Where a patient is using a legitimate online prescribing service, pharmacists can reinforce safe use, discuss side effects, and encourage them to remain engaged with the provider's monitoring and review process
- Where there are concerns about inadequate assessment or follow-up, pharmacists can help the patient understand what good clinical oversight should involve and encourage them to contact an appropriately regulated provider
- Counterfeit or illegally supplied medications can cause serious harm. Patients should be encouraged not to use products purchased through social media accounts, informal sellers, or websites that cannot demonstrate legitimate clinical and pharmacy processes
- Questions about online prescribing represent an opportunity for meaningful clinical counselling rather than an automatic reason for concern. The aim should be to help patients distinguish between safe, professionally delivered care and unregulated supply
- Staying current with relevant regulatory alerts and professional guidance is increasingly important as digital healthcare and prescribing models continue to evolve

The broader picture
Online prescribing is not simply a temporary trend or a niche area at the edges of pharmacy practice. It is an increasingly important part of modern healthcare delivery.

When supported by qualified clinicians, robust prescribing processes, and appropriate patient monitoring, digital services can complement traditional healthcare and improve access for people who might otherwise struggle to receive treatment.

The growing number of reputable providers also creates new opportunities for pharmacists. Online prescribing businesses require experienced pharmacy professionals to support clinical governance, medication safety, patient consultations, prescribing processes, dispensing operations, and ongoing care.

At the same time, the presence of counterfeit medicines and illegal sellers means patients need trusted healthcare professionals who can help them navigate the market safely.

Pharmacists are not simply dispensers within this changing landscape. They are accessible clinical experts who can support informed choices, promote appropriate treatment, and help patients recognise when a service or product may not be safe.

At Mediplacements, doing the right thing is not a tagline. It is how we operate every single day.

That means we are selective about the organisations we work with. We only partner with reputable, regulated employers who share our commitment to safe, ethical, patient-centred care. Whether that is an established NHS trust, a community pharmacy group, or an online prescribing provider, we carry out our own due diligence so that the pharmacists we place can be confident they are working somewhere that meets the professional standards they hold themselves to.

We understand that pharmacy is not just a job. It is a profession that carries genuine clinical responsibility, whether you are supporting patients face to face or helping to deliver safe, effective care through a digital service. The employers we work with understand that too.

Whether you are looking for a community pharmacy locum role, a clinical pharmacist position in primary care, a specialist hospital placement, or an opportunity within a growing online healthcare provider, we would love to help you find a role that matches your experience, your values, and your career goals.

Every year on 24th July, International Self-Care Day lands as a gentle nudge to all of us to think about how well we are looking after ourselves. The date is deliberate. 24/7. A reminder that self-care is not a one-off treat or something you fit in when life slows down. It is something that needs to happen every day, around the clock, in the small and ordinary moments as much as the big ones.

For healthcare professionals, that message can feel almost ironic.

You spend your working life caring for others. Looking after people is not just your job, it is part of who you are. And yet the people who are best at caring for others are often the last to turn that same care inward.

This International Self-Care Day, we want to change that.

What self-care actually means
Self-care has developed an unfortunate reputation in recent years. It gets associated with bubble baths and scented candles, with expensive wellness products and aspirational social media posts that have very little to do with the reality of a full clinical day.

Real self-care is much simpler and much more important than that.

It is drinking enough water during your working day. It is taking your lunch break even when the department is busy. It is saying no when you have already given everything you have. It is asking for help before you reach the point of crisis. It is getting enough sleep, moving your body in ways that feel good, and maintaining connections with the people who matter to you outside of work.

None of that is indulgent. All of it is essential.

Why healthcare professionals are particularly at risk of neglecting it
There is a culture within healthcare, as within many clinical professions, that equates struggling with weakness and pushing through with strength. It is an understandable culture given the demands of the job, but it is one that quietly does a great deal of harm.

Burnout among allied health and health science professionals is not a personal failing. It is the predictable result of consistently giving more than is sustainable without adequate rest, support, and recovery. Research shows that healthcare professionals who neglect their own wellbeing are more likely to experience compassion fatigue, make clinical errors, and ultimately step back from the profession entirely.

Looking after yourself is not selfish. It is what makes it possible to keep doing the work you love.

Some self-care practices that actually work for busy healthcare professionals
Generic self-care advice is not always helpful when your working pattern involves long days, demanding caseloads, and very little downtime. Here are some things that tend to work well in practice:
- Protect your sleep. Long and irregular working days take a toll that accumulates over time. A consistent wind-down routine and being firm about protecting your rest time are worth investing in
- Move in ways you enjoy. Exercise does not have to mean the gym. A walk, a swim, a cycle, anything that gets you out of your head and into your body counts
- Stay connected. It is easy when work is demanding to let friendships and relationships outside of it drift. Maintaining those connections takes effort but it matters enormously for your long term wellbeing
- Set boundaries around work. Finding a ritual that helps you mentally switch off at the end of the day, whether that is a podcast on the commute home, a change of clothes, or a short walk, can make a real difference over time
- Know your warning signs. Everyone has early indicators that they are running low. Learn yours and take them seriously before they escalate into something bigger

A reminder worth keeping
You chose a career in healthcare because you care about people. That instinct is a gift. But it needs to be sustained, and the only way to sustain it is to make sure you are also on your own list of people to look after.

This International Self-Care Day, do one thing for yourself. Just one. And then tomorrow, do it again.

At Mediplacements, we genuinely care about the healthcare professionals we work with. Whether you are looking for a locum placement or a permanent role, we take the time to find you something that fits not just your skills but your life.

Insourcing: the new way to locum in the NHS?

If you work in allied health or health science, you may have started hearing the word insourcing mentioned more and more over the last year or two. It is turning up in job boards, in conversations with colleagues, and in NHS communications in a way that suggests it is no longer a niche arrangement but a growing part of how the health service manages its workforce.

At Mediplacements, we offer both insourcing and locum solutions across allied health and health science. So we understand this landscape from the inside, and we want to give you an honest picture of what both options look like and how to decide which one is right for you.

What insourcing actually means
Insourcing, in the NHS context, refers to the practice of NHS trusts using staff sourced through approved providers to deliver additional clinical sessions, often outside of standard contracted hours. Rather than filling gaps through traditional agency arrangements, the trust runs an additional capacity programme using staff who are brought in specifically to reduce waiting lists or cover periods of high demand.

In practice this might look like a radiographer completing extra reporting sessions in the evenings or at weekends. A biomedical scientist working additional shifts during a backlog period. A pharmacist providing clinical review sessions to support a trust's medicines management programme. A podiatrist running additional clinics to clear a community waiting list.

The activity stays within the NHS system. The trust retains oversight of the clinical governance, and the sessions are typically planned in advance rather than being reactive short-notice cover.

How insourcing differs from locum work
Traditional locum work is reactive and flexible. A trust needs cover at short notice, a gap appears on a rota, a department needs additional capacity urgently, and a specialist recruiter like Mediplacements finds the right person quickly. Locum work gives you maximum flexibility over where you work, when you work, and which trusts you take on.

Insourcing is more structured. The sessions are pre-planned, the activity is focused on specific waiting list or backlog targets, and the working environment is typically a single trust running a defined programme. For some professionals that structure is appealing. For others, the variety and flexibility of traditional locum work suits them better.

At Mediplacements, we work with AHPs and health scientists across both models. Some of our candidates do both, using insourcing for planned additional income and locum work for the flexibility it brings.

Why insourcing is growing right now
The NHS is under sustained pressure to reduce waiting times, and the government's commitment to tackling the elective care backlog has accelerated the search for cost-effective capacity solutions. Insourcing has emerged as one of the more efficient ways for trusts to increase activity quickly, using staff who are already familiar with NHS environments and clinical governance requirements.

For allied health and health science professionals, that creates a genuine opportunity. Trusts running insourcing programmes need experienced, registered clinicians who can step in and deliver high-quality clinical sessions with minimal onboarding. If that sounds like you, the timing is good.

Which option is right for you?
The honest answer is that it depends on what you are looking for right now.

If you value flexibility, variety, and the ability to work across different trusts and settings, traditional locum work is likely the better fit. If you prefer a more structured arrangement with pre-planned sessions and a single working environment, insourcing may suit you better. And if you want the best of both, we can help you build a working pattern that combines the two.

It is shaping up to be quite a summer. After record-breaking temperatures in late June, another heatwave is building right now across southern and eastern England with forecasts suggesting it could reach 34C this week.
And whether you are working in a clinic, a lab, a community setting, or anywhere in between, you are working through it.

We just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge that, and to say something that does not always get said enough.

Please look after yourself today.

It is easier to forget than you think
Healthcare professionals are exceptionally good at focusing outward. It is one of the things that makes you so good at what you do. But in a heatwave, that outward focus can mean your own hydration, energy levels, and general wellbeing quietly slip down the priority list without you even noticing.

By the time you feel thirsty, you are already mildly dehydrated. And even mild dehydration has real effects on how you feel and function. Concentration dips, fatigue creeps in earlier than it should, and the mental sharpness your work demands becomes that little bit harder to sustain. It does not hit dramatically. It just makes everything slightly harder than it needs to be.

You work too hard to give yourself that disadvantage.

Some simple things that help:
- You do not need a complicated routine. Just a few small habits that are easy to fit into your working day:
- Start your day with a full water bottle and keep it visible. Not in your bag, actually in front of you. Out of sight really does mean out of mind when you are busy
- Drink little and often throughout the day rather than trying to catch up at the end of a shift or between appointments. Small amounts consistently go a long way
- Watch out for the early signs in yourself. A headache that builds through the day, feeling foggy or irritable, or noticing your urine is darker than usual are all signals worth paying attention to
- Do not rely on tea and coffee as your main fluid source. Caffeine has a mild diuretic effect and while the odd cup is not going to cause problems, it should not be substituting water on a hot day
- On your break, reach for water-rich foods where you can. Fruit, salad, and yoghurt all contribute to your fluid intake and can feel a lot more appealing than a hot meal when it is already warm
- If you are out and about between appointments or visits, carry more water than you think you need and try to stay out of direct sun during the hottest part of the day where your schedule allows

Look out for your colleagues too
It is easy in a busy working environment for everyone to be so focused on getting through the day that nobody checks in on the team.

The colleague who seems quieter than usual. The one who has skipped their break again. A simple check-in takes thirty seconds and can make more difference than you might expect.

One last thing
You do not need us to tell you that staying hydrated matters. You already know that. This is just a gentle reminder that in the middle of a busy working day in a heatwave, it is easy to let the basics slip.

So keep your water bottle close, take your breaks, and look out for each other.

Summer might feel like a time to slow down, but in NHS recruitment, it's anything but quiet. June, July, and August are some of the busiest months of the year for locum demand across allied health and health science roles, and if you haven't registered yet, now is exactly the right time to do it.

Here's why the summer window matters more than you might think.

The NHS gets busy. Fast.
NHS trusts plan their staffing around the calendar, and summer always brings a surge in cover requests. Permanent staff take annual leave, wards and departments still need to run, and patient demand doesn't pause for the school holidays. The result? A spike in short-notice locum bookings across a wide range of AHP and health science specialisms, including radiography and biomedical science to pharmacy, audiology, and podiatry.

Trusts have already started filling these gaps, and the pace only picks up through July and August. If you're registered and available, you're still well placed to get ahead of the rush.

It's also peak season for locum funding
With permanent staff taking annual leave and patient demand holding steady through the school holidays, many trusts release additional locum funding specifically to cover summer gaps. That creates a window where roles appear quickly and rates can be competitive, but it tends to move fast as departments fill positions on a first-come, first-served basis.

Summer locum work fits around your life
One of the reasons so many AHPs love locum work is the flexibility, and summer makes that even more appealing. Whether you're looking to fill a gap between permanent roles, boost your income over the summer months, or simply test out a new trust or specialism before committing, locum work gives you that control. You set your availability. You choose your locations. And with Mediplacements behind you, you've got a specialist recruiter who knows the AHP and health science market inside out.

Don't wait until the last minute
If you register now, you'll be compliance-ready while summer demand is still at its peak. That means no delays, no missed opportunities, and no frustration of watching roles fill while you're still uploading documents.

What Mediplacements can do for you
We specialise in placing allied health and health science professionals across the UK, covering more than ten specialisms, including radiography, biomedical science, cardiac physiology, pharmacy, speech therapy, podiatry, audiology, dietetics, phlebotomy, and sterile services.

When you register with us, you get a dedicated consultant who understands your specialism, not a generalist agency juggling hundreds of roles. We'll match you to placements that suit your skills, your location, and your life.

Whether you're a newly qualified AHP taking your first locum steps, or an experienced band 6 or 7 looking for something different this summer, we'd love to hear from you.

Ready to make this summer count? Register with Mediplacements today and let's find you something great.

As Pride Month draws to a close, it feels like the right moment to reflect on what it's meant for the world of healthcare this year. It's been a reminder that the people who keep our health service running are as diverse as the patients they serve, and that workplaces which embrace that diversity are better for everyone in them.

At Mediplacements, we believe every healthcare professional deserves to feel seen, safe, and valued at work. As June ends, that's a commitment we're carrying forward rather than packing away.

Why inclusive workplaces matter in healthcare
When you spend your working life caring for others, you need to know your own wellbeing is taken seriously too. Research consistently shows that LGBTQ+ staff who feel included at work are more engaged, more likely to stay, and deliver better patient care. When people can bring their whole selves to work without fear of judgment or discrimination, teams function better and patients notice the difference.

Yet for many LGBTQ+ healthcare professionals, barriers still exist. From subtle comments in the staffroom to feeling invisible in recruitment processes, the experience isn't always what it should be. The NHS Confederation's LGBTQ+ Inclusion Framework is clear: meaningful inclusion goes beyond flying a rainbow flag in June. It means policies, leadership, and daily culture that actively support every member of the team, all year round.

What to look for in an employer
If you're looking for a new role, it's worth asking the right questions before you accept. Here are a few things to look out for:

- An active EDI policy with named leads and regular staff network activity, not just a statement on the website
- Visible LGBTQ+ role models in senior or specialist positions
- Flexible and respectful HR processes, including those around name changes, pronoun preferences, and gender recognition
- A culture of psychological safety where concerns can be raised without fear of repercussions

At Mediplacements, we work hard to match you with employers who share these values. We know the placement is only as good as the environment you're stepping into, so we take the time to understand both.

The AHP community is wonderfully diverse
Allied health professions attract people from every background, identity, and community. Whether you're working in Audiology, Radiography, Pharmacy, Dietetics, Podiatry, or any of the other specialisms we cover, the people in those roles reflect the full breadth of the society we serve.

That diversity is a strength. It brings different perspectives to clinical decisions, builds trust with patients from marginalised communities, and helps create departments where everyone can thrive. That's worth celebrating in June, and worth holding onto for the other eleven months of the year too.

A note on allyship
As Pride Month ends, it's worth remembering that allyship doesn't end with it. It's an ongoing opportunity for all of us to be better allies, not just a June one. Whether that means speaking up when you hear something unhelpful, making sure your team meetings are genuinely inclusive, or simply asking a colleague how they're doing, small actions add up, in July and beyond.

If you're a hiring manager or team lead reading this: the AHP talent pool is competitive. Inclusive employers attract better candidates, retain staff for longer, and build the kind of teams that candidates actively want to join. It's not just the right thing to do, it makes business sense too.

Ready to find a role where you belong?
At Mediplacements, we're here to help you find more than just a job. We want to find you somewhere you genuinely fit, and our team will always take the time to understand what matters to you.

Browse our latest vacancies or get in touch with our friendly team today. You deserve a workplace where you can be exactly who you are, this month and every month.

CV tips, interview prep, and how to set yourself apart

Whether you're just beginning your healthcare career or looking to step into a new role, standing out in today's job market takes more than qualifications alone. With increasing competition across both NHS and private settings, your CV, interview performance, and professional presentation need to reflect the full value you bring.
Here's a practical guide to help you take the next step with confidence.

1. Make Your CV clear, relevant and results-focused
Your CV is often your first impression, make it count. Keep it clear, targeted and concise, ideally within two pages. Focus on recent and relevant experience, highlighting how your work has made a difference.

Key points to consider:
- Tailor your CV to each role by aligning with the job description
- Prioritise impact, include measurable outcomes where possible
- Use keywords such as clinical decision-making, multidisciplinary team working, HCPC/NMC registered, rehabilitation, or acute care
- Keep formatting simple and professional

2. Prepare for interviews with structure and confidence
Regardless of whether you're interviewing for a long-term contract, a flexible role, or a permanent post, how you present yourself in an interview matters.

Prepare for questions about:
- Handling complex patient scenarios or clinical challenges
- Working collaboratively in team-based environments
- Managing pressure and demonstrating emotional resilience
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and CPD
- Using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) helps bring structure and clarity to your responses. Make time to research the organisation or department ahead of your interview to show initiative and interest.

3. Showcase your professional and personal strengths
In addition to your technical expertise, employers value interpersonal and behavioural strengths. These are especially important in roles that rely on patient interaction, teamwork, or leadership potential.

Attributes worth emphasising include:
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Adaptability in changing clinical environments
- Compassionate and patient-focused care
- Initiative and openness to feedback
- You should reflect these qualities throughout your application and support them with practical examples during interviews.

4. Present yourself professionally from start to finish
Beyond your CV and interview, how you engage throughout the application process says a lot about your professional approach. Be prompt in communication, organised with paperwork, and prepared to meet compliance requirements efficiently.

Consider:
- Keeping professional registration, DBS, and training up to date
- Being clear on your availability and preferred work patterns
- Staying flexible where possible, this often leads to more opportunities
- Ensuring your references and right-to-work documentation are accessible

Final thoughts
In a competitive market, the healthcare professionals who stand out are those who are prepared, focused, and proactive, not just clinically competent, but also confident in presenting their value.

Whether you're applying for your first UK role, returning to work, or looking to explore new opportunities, we can support you with CV guidance, interview preparation and access to a wide range of roles that fit your goals.

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from the 12th to 18th May, and this year's theme is Community. It's a powerful reminder that we're stronger when we stay connected and support each other. For those working in the NHS, this message feels especially important.

Caring for the carers

Healthcare professionals give so much of themselves to care for others, but their own wellbeing is often overlooked. In recent years, stress, anxiety and burnout have become leading causes of sickness absence across the NHS. These aren't just statistics - they reflect real people who are doing their best while quietly carrying a heavy load.

Why community matters

When people feel supported, understood and connected, it can make all the difference. Community isn't just about big gestures - it's built through everyday kindness, shared understanding and simply knowing you're not alone. A strong team, an encouraging word, or a quick chat over a coffee can help someone feel seen and valued.

Spotting the signs of struggle

Mental health challenges often show up in subtle ways - low mood, tiredness, forgetfulness or withdrawing from others. Recognising these signs early, in ourselves or those around us, can open the door to support and recovery.

How we can all help

As a healthcare recruitment company, we speak with professionals across the NHS every day. Many are feeling the strain both at work and at home. That's why we do more than fill roles; we focus on helping people find workplaces where they feel safe, appreciated and part of a supportive team.

But it doesn't stop there. We all have a role to play - as colleagues, friends, and individuals.

Everyday ways to make a difference

- Take time to pause and get some fresh air
- Check in with someone who might need a kind word
- Create boundaries between work and home, even in small ways
- Talk openly about how you're feeling
- Make space for the things that bring you peace and joy

Let's keep talking

Mental Health Awareness Week is more than a date on the calendar. It's a chance to reflect, reach out, and remind each other that we're all human - and all deserving of support.

If you're struggling, please know you're not alone. And if you're able to help someone else, a small act of kindness can go a very long way

With NHS patient waiting times at an all-time high, trusts across the country are under increasing pressure to deliver timely, high-quality care at scale.

To not only manage this demand, but to actively reduce the growing backlog, the NHS must adopt new, more flexible models of care delivery. This is where TPG Insourcing plays a vital role.

In line with its ongoing commitment to supporting the NHS, The Placement Group has introduced TPG Insourcing, a dedicated service designed to offer innovative, on-site clinical solutions, built on the foundation of over 30 years' experience in delivering high-quality temporary staffing through its established brands.

Created to address rising clinical pressures, TPG Insourcing delivers fully managed, consultant-led teams who work on-site, using NHS facilities during evenings and weekends to maximise capacity and minimise disruption.

Through trusted brands such as Mediplacements, The Placement Group has long supplied highly skilled healthcare professionals to NHS trusts. Now, through TPG Insourcing, that expertise extends even further, offering a full-service clinical delivery model that helps trusts boost capacity, reduce waiting times, and improve patient flow from within.

Across the NHS, the pressure to deliver timely, high-quality care has never been greater. Rising patient numbers, national backlog targets, and stretched in-house teams have created a perfect storm, and trusts are looking for smart, reliable ways to respond.
That's where TPG Insourcing comes in.

As part of The Placement Group, we've spent decades supporting the NHS through expert staffing. TPG Insourcing is the next step in that journey, designed to give trusts immediate, on-site support from fully managed clinical teams. Our goal? To ease the burden, reduce waiting lists, and help trusts deliver outstanding care, without compromise.

So, What Exactly Is Insourcing?

Put simply, insourcing allows NHS trusts to bring in external clinical teams, but keep everything in-house whilst still retaining clinical oversight and capacity planning controls. Care is delivered on-site, using the trust's existing facilities and equipment, often during evenings or weekends when theatres or clinics would otherwise sit unused.

Unlike outsourcing, where patients might be sent off-site or into private settings, insourcing keeps control, quality, and consistency where they belong: within the NHS.

Why Insourcing?

Whether a trust is battling a winter backlog, working to hit RTT targets, or managing staffing gaps, insourcing can provide a rapid, effective boost to clinical capacity.

It's a practical model with clear benefits:

'	Faster treatment times for patients waiting on diagnostics, surgery or outpatient care
'	Better use of NHS infrastructure, especially during off-peak hours
'	No disruption to continuity - patients stay within familiar systems and pathways
'	Support for existing teams, easing pressure on permanent staff

And when it's done right, it makes a real difference.

How TPG Insourcing Makes It Work

We don't just drop in a few extra clinicians, we provide fully managed, consultant-led teams that integrate seamlessly with your services. Every programme is built around your trust's specific pressures, processes, and goals.

Here's what makes TPG Insourcing different:

'	Bespoke service design - We tailor each project to your speciality, patient flow, and site setup
'	Clinician-led care - Our teams are NHS-experienced, highly vetted, and led by senior clinical staff
'	Efficient mobilisation - From scoping to delivery, we move quickly and communicate clearly
'	Framework ready - We're approved on major NHS frameworks including Workforce Alliance and NHS SBS
'	Transparent pricing - Delivered in line with NHS tariffs and agreed budgets

Where We Add Value

We provide specialist teams across a growing range of disciplines:

'	Endoscopy
'	ENT & Audiology
'	Cardiology
'	Diagnostic Imaging
'	Surgical Theatres
'	Community & Remote Therapies

From weekend day-case lists to full theatre programmes, we're flexible in scale and scope. Whether you need short-term relief or longer-term capacity support, we can build the right solution with you.

Let's Tackle It Together

At TPG Insourcing, we believe in partnership. You bring the site, the need, and the patient list, we'll bring the people, the plan, and the support to make it work.

So, whether you're a Trust looking to improve flow, or a clinician interested in joining one of our high-impact teams, we'd love to hear from you.
For many newly qualified pharmacists, the idea of stepping into a permanent role straight after university can feel like the natural path.

But what if you want more? More variety, more flexibility, more chances to explore different healthcare settings? That's exactly why Parveen, a young and ambitious UK-based pharmacist, chose to embark on her locum journey. Now, she's experiencing life in different hospitals and growing her expertise. Here's what a typical day looks like for her as a locum critical care pharmacist.

7:00 AM - Getting Ready for the Day
Parveen: "I check my schedule, read any handover notes, and grab a coffee before heading out. One of the best parts of locuming is the variety—every day brings new challenges, and I love that I'm not tied to one place."

8:00 AM - The Freedom of the Commute
Parveen: "I drive to work because it gives me flexibility. I've worked in hospitals across different cities, and having my own transport makes it easier to move between placements. Plus, I love knowing that after this contract, I could take time off to travel or pick up a new placement somewhere completely different!"

8:30 AM - Getting Stuck In
Parveen: "I check in with the lead pharmacist and go through the morning handover.'

10:00 AM - Making an Impact
Parveen: "My role in critical care is all about making sure medications are optimised for the most vulnerable patients. I review charts, spot potential drug interactions, and make adjustments where needed. Today, I flagged a dosing issue that could have caused complications—being a locum doesn't mean taking a back seat; it means stepping up and making a difference from day one."

12:00 PM - Thriving on Ward Rounds
Parveen: "I join the consultants, nurses, and dietitians on ward rounds. Every hospital works differently, and I love seeing new approaches to patient care. Some places are very structured, others more fluid, but every experience helps me build my knowledge and confidence."

1:30 PM - Lunch and Networking
Parveen: "I grab a quick bite and take the chance to chat with colleagues. Being a locum, I get to meet so many professionals from different backgrounds, which is great for networking. It's also helped me discover new career pathways that I wouldn't have known about otherwise."

2:00 PM - Keeping Things Moving
Parveen: "Afternoons involve answering medication queries, reviewing prescriptions, and ensuring patient safety. One of the perks of locuming is that I'm exposed to different prescribing systems, patient groups, and hospital structures—something I wouldn't get if I stayed in just one place."

4:00 PM - Wrapping Up and Looking Ahead
Parveen: "Before finishing up, I complete my notes and hand over anything important to the next shift. One of the great things about locuming is knowing that when this placement ends, I have options. I can take a break, book a holiday, or jump straight into my next adventure!"

Why Choose Locum Work?
Parveen: "Locuming has been the best decision I've made. I have the flexibility to work where I want, experience different hospitals, and even plan time off when I need it. It's given me so much more control over my career and lifestyle. If you're thinking about locuming, I'd say go for it—you'll learn so much and open doors you never even considered!"
