Our Locum of the Month

Monday 3rd October 2016

At Mediplacements we like to celebrate the personal achievements of our locums and this month we have the pleasure of recognising Joy, a lovely and highly skilled Pharmacy Technician from Nottingham.

Joy was nominated by our expert Consultant Divya, who commented that Joy has made an amazing impression with her hard work and positive friendly nature.

Current Locum position?
Medicines Management Technician Band 5

Personal achievements within the role?
Successfully learning a completely new set of skills very quickly to facilitate my rapid integration into a small well established team.

What do you enjoy about being a locum?
I enjoy the variety, gaining new skills and being able to make a positive difference wherever I am placed.
Employing a locum is expensive and I feel very strongly that as a locum technician I have a professional responsibility to give my best wherever I am placed. This includes being flexible, co-operative and conscientious.

Most memorable moment within your career?
Last winter I had a placement in a Pharmacy Department that had previous bad experiences with locums. In fact, they had vowed never to employ a locum again!
It was only out of sheer necessity that they relented and I was placed there.
Towards the end of my placement I overheard the Service Manager on the telephone to one of her senior colleagues.
Apparently I had completely changed her opinions about locums and she was so impressed with my professional capabilities, work ethic and attitude.
This was so good to hear!
There are many talented locums out there who feel just as I do.
Just because our personal circumstances do not allow us to work in permanent positions, it does not mean that we are any less committed to making a valuable contribution wherever we are placed.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you take?
1.) Clockwork Radio (I live for my music!)
2.) Photographs of my children and grandchildren
3.) Aidan Turner(AKA Ross Poldark) to keep me busy as I soon get bored!
