Colne is set to unveil a new podiatry service as the final touches are put to a long-awaited health centre in the Lancashire town.

The £4.2 million facility in Craddock Road is expected to be completed by February and will provide speech and language therapy services and have four GP surgeries alongside the podiatry offering, The Lancashire Telegraph reports. It has been a long road for the NHS building as it has been beset by a number of stumbling blocks since the land was acquired in 2008. Plans were shelved at one stage in 2010 due to concerns over funding but the doors will finally be opened next month.

Speaking to the news provider, Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson heralded the new facility: "I have been delighted to see the rapid progress on the new Colne Health Centre. This multi-million pound project is a real boost for local patients and is a long overdue investment."

Along with the podiatry, speech and therapy and GP services the Colne facility will also include pharmacy and outpatient facilities. Around 150 members of staff will be moved across as part of the transition and it will provide expert health services on the doorstep of many living within the Lancashire town.

Having a team of professional podiatrists available can be of a huge benefits to patients across the town. While details have not been released of what the Colne practice will be providing they will be able to assist in any problem that a person may have. Many services include a consultation period where the patient will sit down with the podiatrist and explain the issue they have.

Treatments can be administered for everything from minor problems such as corns, calluses or verrucas to more complicated issues such as flat feet or thickened, fungal or ingrown toenails.
