Podiatry services are a key feature of a new elite sports medicine centre which has opened up on the South Coast.
The Ageas Bowl had teamed up with company which provides The Football Association with medical and rehabilitation care at the St George's Park training facility. The technology used by England internationals will be used by Perform at The Ageas Bowl clinic giving sportsmen and women the opportunity to benefit from state-of-the-art treatment after picking up an injury.
Podiatry will just be one of the services offered by professionals at the site but it is a main focus especially in sport. It plays a significant role in helping players get back to full fitness and promotes proper footcare to ensure that they do not suffer from recurring injuries. Many sport podiatrists specialise in pain and injuries related to biomechanical function in the lower limbs.
The main beneficiaries of the sports clinic will be Hampshire cricketers but the services will be open to everyone whether they be professional athletes or members of local sports or even part of school teams. A lot of work has gone into bringing the centre to fruition and is staffed with a team of sports medicine doctors, physiotherapists and consultants which have worked with top sport stars in the past.
Spire Southampton Hospital has been instrumental in bringing the clinic to fruition and will be providing high-quality diagnostic and surgical services through a partnership. This helps to ensure that people have an easy transition from sustaining the injury through rehabilitation and finally making a full recovery.
Phil Horton, national Perform director, said: “Spire Healthcare is pleased to be opening its seventh Perform centre, working in partnership with Spire Southampton Hospital and The Ageas Bowl. Perform brings together elite sports medicine and physiotherapy expertise, with great facilities and partners to support athletes, corporates and the local community to perform beyond their expectations."
