A project to revamp the sterile services unit at Yeovil District Hospital is one step closer to completion.

Contractor Cfes has finished the mid-project phase of the work, HeatingandVentilation.net reports.

A total of 15 off-site fabricated modules were recently craned into position at the medical centre, which is run by Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - an organisation that provides healthcare to a total of around 180,000 people.

Because this has been completed, the process of lifting nine pieces of specialist equipment can begin later this month, including three two-tonne sterilisers.

Commenting on the developments, Cfes operations manager John Davies said: "I'm pleased to say disruption was minimal and through careful planning and design we ensured that the critical services ... were not affected by the latest phase of the project."

He noted that work had been undertaken at the weekend to reduce the impact felt by patients and workers at the medical centre.
