The process of taking blood from patients and having it sent away for testing has been made quicker in Derbyshire thanks to new technology.
According to the BBC, the Royal Derbyshire Hospital has installed a robotic testing system which has reduced the length of time needed for testing.
As a result of the changes, routine blood analysis can be processed and the results sent out in a few hours.
The medical centre - which is run by the Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - processes over 2,500 samples sent from GP surgeries across the county each day.
Steve Kyte, pathology service manager at the facility, said: "I'm very impressed with this system - the staff have implemented it very well with very few hiccups."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the hospital added that it used to take up to several days to process samples when workers had to manually test them.
