Mediplacements are looking to recruit a band 6 Speech and Language Therapist for a locum position with our client in London.
The pay for this position is £23-£28 per hour, and we are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible for an ongoing duration.
JOB SUMMARY:
We are excited that our prison services are transforming in partnership with other healthcare providers across our London Prisons and are looking for candidates who are interested in working in prison mental health to come and work with us in our Mental Health Hub. The post holder will be required to support the delivery of trauma-informed care currently in the form of this New Models of Care, enabling the service to meet the London Wide service specification standards for Prison Healthcare.
The post holder will be responsible for the management and delivery of speech and language therapy services within a large London prison. They will be responsible for assessment and management of individuals with communication needs and will offer advice, training and consultation to non-speech and language therapy colleagues. They will take the key role in the development of accessible information and services and will Lead on the further development of the Neurodevelopmental pathway- additional training will be available in this area. There may also be some involvement with dysphagia referrals and input to the dysphagia pathway for the NLFS. The successful applicant will work within a multi-disciplinary team comprising of a range of mental health professionals. There will be regular professional supervision and they will meet with colleagues from the speech and language therapy team within the wider service. The post will involve liaison, joint-working and providing advice to other clinical, educational and criminal justice professionals and other external agencies when appropriate.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical:
1. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, to manage a speech and language therapy service within a prison setting and exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and case closure of service users.
2. Working with other professionals, leading on improving the identification and support of people on the autistic spectrum, and contributing to other parts of the Neurodevelopmental pathway i.e. for those with Intellectual disability.
3. To undertake dysphagia referrals in the Enfield secure hospital and the prison service, where appropriate.
4. To be professionally accountable for own caseload, working autonomously in a variety of settings.
5. To undertake speech and language assessments of service users based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of information from a variety of sources including formal and informal assessment, observation and interviews with service users and others involved in the service user's care.
6. To provide timely and accurate reports that provides diagnosis, assessment and recommendations and complies with best practice guidelines.
7. To work with service users and other members of the MDT to achieve identified goals and to promote social inclusion, independence and well-being.
8. To take a key role in the development of accessible information and services. This may be information for individual service users' or may involve training other members of the MDT around the writing of information such as course handouts in an accessible format.
9. To attend relevant case conferences and MDT meetings. To participate in MDT team meetings and promote multi-professional links and play a full role in local initiatives.
10. To make onward referrals and document as professional standards indicate.
11. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
