The availability of audiology services in the Doncaster area has been increased through the opening of a new £250,000 Specsavers store in the village of Armthorpe.
While most famous for its visual services and the high-profile advertising campaign using the slogan 'Should have gone to Specsavers', the company also offers the most up-to-date audiology services including hearing tests and hearing aids.
It was opened in the Armthorpe Shopping Centre last Saturday and local residents were invited along to help celebrate - and find out more about the services on offer. These will include two hearing and eye testing rooms and a full audiology department. Six staff members have been recruited locally already, with more to come in the future.
Manager of the store Zoe Lancaster told the Doncaster Free Press: "Our launch day is a celebration of all our hard work over the past year to make sure we’re opening the best store possible for the people of Armthorpe, and we’re keen to share this with our local community.
“As well as offering the latest in optical and audiology technology, we hope this new store will help support the growth of Armthorpe as a village."
Specsavers has been highlighting the importance of people getting their hearing tested along with their eyesight with its recent Better Hearing Bus tour of the UK.
The tour started in London on 26th July and visited 22 locations across the UK, holding town and city centre events to highlight the importance of taking advantage of the audiology services available.
Each stop would offer people the chance to use a hearing loss simulator and get a free hearing check.
People from Armthorpe and other locations in Yorkshire had the opportunity to visit the bus towards the end of last month, when it visited Leeds and Sheffield in its final stops of the tour.
