Websites featuring information on chemotherapy could be promoted more by those in hospital doctor jobs, according to a report.
A study carried out by Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust, and published in the British Journal of Cancer, found that only a small number of medical experts were recommending useful sites on the internet so that patients could find out more on the treatment.
"It’s undeniable that reliable information can improve patients’ understanding of chemotherapy and can be a good way of tailoring consultations to address the individual needs of a patient," said Elaine Davies, study author.
She added that it was important that doctors and nurses determined what information patients were most interested in and how they could offer guidance to credible websites.
Among the websites recommended in the study were Cancer Research UK's portal, along with CancerHelp UK, which features information on everything from recognising symptoms to coping after treatment.
