Home care plan launched to boost respiratory health in North Lincolnshire

A new respiratory service designed to reduce the amount of admissions to hospital has been launched in North Lincolnshire.
The service will be delivered by physiotherapists, those in occupational therapy jobs, dieticians and specialist respiratory nurses based at Scunthorpe General Hospital. It will focus on oxygen therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation and will see more patients treated at home where they will be offered support and regular reassessments.
Ministers recently announced a new £170 million health plan which aims to reduce the number of elderly people in NHS hospitals.
Councils across the country will be given £1 million each to help improve the social care system within their specific region.
Respiratory consultant Dr Stuart Baugh, who is leading the service, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to try and improve the quality of life of people living with lung disease. The aim is to provide them with the skills and knowledge to manage their condition with fewer admissions to hospital."
