New disinfection technique to improve hospital cleanliness

A new technique has been developed to stop infection spreading within hospitals while also helping to improve cleanliness in the health service.
Developed by Dr Dick Zoutman of the Queen's University in the US, he has designed a new technology that involves pumping Medizone-specific ozone and hydrogen peroxide vapour gas mixture into a room to completely sterilise everything including floors, walls, drapes, mattresses, chairs and other surfaces.
The new method is thought to be far more effective than wiping down a room once a patient has been discharged.
Dr Zoutman said: "This is the future, because many hospital deaths are preventable with better cleaning methods. It has been reported that more than 100,000 people in North America die every year due to hospital acquired infections at a cost of $30 billion (£19.2 billion). That's 100,000 people every year who are dying from largely preventable infections."
In the UK the NHS has reported that 93 per cent of hospitals achieved a rating of good or excellent in terms of patient environment which was up from the 87 per cent approval in 2010.
