Good nutrition can be extremely conducive to good eye health, according to the International Glaucoma Association (IGA).
Sarah Zerbib, head of marketing and PR at the International Glaucoma Association, noted that green leafy vegetables such as spinach and colourful fruits and vegetables such as carrots, tomatoes and peppers are good for the eyes.
Furthermore, oily fish, which is high in Omega 3, is also known to be beneficial to vision, while vitamin D-rich foods such as salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines are also great.
She added that the risk for glaucoma becomes much more common with age, especially after the age of 40.
"Research shows there is a higher percentage of people over the age of 50 who develop glaucoma and other eye conditions such as macular degeneration and cataracts," explained Ms Zerbib.
On Thursday (October 13th), people around the globe will be marking World Sight Day, drawing attention to conditions such as glaucoma.
