Podiatry enhancements central to Peebles community hospital upgrade

A new upgrade to facilities at a community hospital in Peebles will provide a multipurpose therapy room with additional space for podiatry treatments and therapies.
NHS Borders has announced details of the plans for a new health hub that will replace a closed ward at Hay Lodge Hospital, reports Peeblesshire News.
According to the publication, NHS Borders chief executive Calum Campbell told a public meeting last week that the new 23-bed unit would make more efficient use of resources at the hospital.
He added: "This will create two additional GP consulting rooms; the introduction of two day bed rooms; an increase in the number of treatment rooms; an additional multi-purpose therapy room; additional podiatry space and extra space for use by Borders Community Addiction Team and psychological services."
The podiatry services will prove particularly effective for the treatment of diabetes in the region.
Last year, NHS Scotland published the Scottish Diabetes Action Plan to build on the 2006 strategy to develop more focused treatment of the condition across the country.
