Register as an Dietitian
Wednesday 27th July 2011
Employees in dietician jobs could help to slow dementia development by offering patients healthy meals each day.
That is according to Professor June Andrews, director of the Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Stirling, who explained that good eating can help reduce the risk of the disease developing.
She suggested that those who have Alzheimer's or similar dementias could benefit from a healthy diet, good exercise and stopping smoking, as a healthy body usually contributes to a healthy mind.
"The evidence is increasing that even if you have Alzheimer's disease, there are lifestyle changes you can make to keep yourself well and to keep the dementia at bay," the expert said.
Recent research from the University of California - San Francisco showed that more than half of all cases of Alzheimer's could be prevented through lifestyle changes, such as the inclusion of a more healthy diet.
