Grape chemical 'may stave off Alzheimer's'

A natural chemical found in grapes may protect against Alzheimer's disease, research has shown.
According to the research published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, natural antioxidant grape seed polyphenols could help to prevent the development of the condition or delay its progression.
Study leader Dr Giulio Maria Pasinetti said it would be "critical" to use biomarkers to indicate which people are at a high risk of developing the condition in order for grape-derived polyphenols to be effective.
"Since naturally occurring polyphenols are also generally commercially available as nutritional supplements and have negligible adverse events even after prolonged periods of treatment, this new finding holds significant promise as a preventive method or treatment," he said.
In other news, research published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease found that an unidentified component of coffee interacts with the caffeine in the beverage to give the hot drink its Alzheimer's fighting properties.
