Register as an Dietitian

Children and adolescents who eat more sweets are less overweight or obese, new research suggests.
The study, reported in journal Food & Nutrition Research, found that weight, body mass index and waist circumference were lower for sweet eaters compared to non-eaters.
In addition, the study, conducted at Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, found that cardiovascular risk factors were also lesser in sugar sweet consumers.
Lead researcher Carol O'Neil said that the study illustrates that children who eat sweets are less likely to be overweight or obese.
"However, the results of this study should not be construed as a hall-pass to overindulge," she said.
"Candy should not replace nutrient-dense foods in the diet; it is a special treat and should be enjoyed in moderation."
In other news, lean men and women are not necessarily at a lower risk of metabolic conditions than overweight people, according to new research published in journal Nature Genetics.
