Following the government's 'listening exercise' regarding the NHS reforms, deputy prime minister Nick Clegg has said that "the right reforms at the right pace" must be put in place.
He stated that while patients, doctors and nurses should have more of a say in care, "free market dogma" must be avoided.
"The NHS isn't a machine. You can't flick a switch and turn it on and off. It's a living, breathing part of our lives. Reforming an institution like that takes time. We have to be careful and considered. It's too important to get this wrong," he continued.
Prime minister David Cameron also spoke, saying that the fundamental principles of the reforms - "more power to doctors and nurses, and less bureaucracy", have remained the same.
Mr Cameron continued that the 'listening exercise' had changed "how we are going to make all this work".
The consultation was designed to promote the modernisation of the NHS and saw members of the coalition attempt to engage medical professionals and the public to hear their views on how it should be done.
