Being granted access to full medical records increases satisfaction but not anxiety, in newly diagnosed cancer patients, according to a new study.
Research published in journal Cancer, found that providing patients with accurate information through medical records could complement their discussion with physicians.
Gwenaelle Gravis of the Paoli-Calmettes Institute in Marseille explained that information is "crucial" in order for the patient and their family to best cope with the condition and its prognosis.
It was found that 70.4 per cent of patients who received full access to their organised medical record (OMR) would choose the option again, with 74.8 per cent saying they did not regret their decision.
"Having full access to his own medical record with the possibility to consult it only if desired increases the patient's trust in the physician and medical team," she continued.
Meanwhile, increasing the usage of electronic medical records could reduce infant mortality in the USA, according to a new study published in the Journal of Political Economy.
