Dairy products may not be as detrimental to heart health as it was previously believed, authors of a new study have said.
Research conducted in Costa Rica revealed that the amount of dairy consumed had no relation to heart attack risk, according to journal Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases.
The Brown University Team hypothesised that while the saturated fats found in milk and butter are by no means harmless, other healthy nutrients in the products could counteract its negative effects.
"The message is that it is important to look at the net effect of whole foods and dietary patterns and not only isolated nutrients," explained co-author Ana Baylin.
In other news, heavy drinkers of coffee were seen to have a much lower risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer than non-consumers, according to research carried out at Harvard School of Public Health.
Men who consume six plus cups of the beverage per day showed a 60 per cent decreased risk of getting aggressive prostate cancer, and a 20 per cent lower chance of developing prostate cancer.
