Clinicians should investigate how cancer patients interact online to improve how they approach the condition, a study has suggested.
Research published in journal BJUI revealed that men who visited an online major support group after being diagnosed with prostate cancer were most likely to seek advice on therapy and treatment as well as emotional support.
Interestingly, it was also found that they would go out of their way to avoid using the term "cancer".
Dr Johannes Huber from the University of Heidelberg explained that social interaction on the internet is now a "regular part of coping" for prostate cancer patients.
"Monitoring this interaction is a good way for clinicians to develop a greater understand of their patients' needs and worries," she continued.
Meanwhile, a study conducted at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center indicated that high levels of Omega 3 fatty acids were linked to the development of aggressive prostate cancer.
