The development of a device which uses a non-invasive method to measure brain temperature could be vital in treating brain conditions, researchers say.
A study, presented at the annual meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies in Denver, revealed that the device rests on the patient's head to accurately measure the temperature of the brain.
This technology could play a significant part in emerging brain cooling procedures.
Dr Thomas Bass at the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters said that the pioneering study was the first incidence of the obtainment of the human brain temperature without an invasive procedure.
"Knowing the actual brain temperature may allow us to improve outcomes by keeping the brain at an optimum temperature," he continued.
In other news, scientists have made a breakthrough in brain inflammation, or encephalitis, as well as other conditions.
Researchers discovered a protein which could be involved in the development of new treatments for brain inflammation, according to the study published in the FACEB Journal.
