GPs 'need more asthma training'

GPs should be better trained in the treatment of asthma, a leading organisation has said.
A survey by Asthma UK revealed that just under two-thirds of GPs feel they do not know enough about the treatment of asthma.
The organisation said that this lack of GP training in the respiratory disease is putting many lives at risk.
A spokesman from the Department of Health responded to these comments, saying that there is no "one size fits all" solution to health.
"That is why we want to put local health experts in charge of commissioning services for patients so they have the power and budget to provide personalised care," he said.
This follows research published in the New England Journal of Medicine which found that a new anti-asthma drug known as Xolair (omalizumab) improved asthma control, eliminated seasonal attacks and reduced the need for controller medication.
