Omega 3 associated with prostate cancer

High levels of Omega 3 fatty acids have been linked to the development of aggressive prostate cancer.
Researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center revealed that men with the highest levels of Omega 3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in their blood were two and a half times more likely to develop the condition.
Theodore M Brasky, of the institute, said that the researchers were "stunned by the findings".
"Our findings turn what we know - or rather what we think we know - about diet, inflammation and the development of prostate cancer on its head and shine a light on the complexity of studying the association between nutrition an d the risk of various chronic diseases," he explained.
Meanwhile, scientists at Northwestern Medicine have developed a more accurate PSA test for prostate cancer, which is hoped to cut the number of unnecessary biopsies.
According to the study authors, prostate cancer screenings often lead to over-detection of the condition, with a high number of false positives leading to unnecessary procedures.
