Dietary habits have been transformed in the last decade, one expert has revealed.
Colin Waine, former chairman of the National Obesity Forum, said that older people are putting on more weight as the activities have often slowed down but they are still consuming the same amount of food they always ate.
"Dietary habits have changed over the last decade or so. There are more energy-dense foods where you are tending to consume a higher amount of calories," he explained, which adds to the problem.
Mr Waine added that the perception that junk food is cheaper than healthier products is a "myth", saying that if food is sourced locally and prepared by the person who is eating it, the price will be acceptable.
These comments are supported by obesity expert professor Klim McPherson from the University of Oxford, who warned that men and women over the age of 40 are not doing enough to combat obesity, according to the Daily Mail.
