A pancreatic cancer vaccine aimed at patients already diagnosed with the condition is being tested around the UK.
The GV1001 jab is to be administered alongside chemotherapy in the trial, which is being coordinated by the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
GV1001 is designed to work by teaching the immune system to attack cancer cells, and if successful, will go a long way to helping people recover from the disease.
Currently, just three per cent of people with the condition live over five years.
Research leader John Neoptolemos, director of the Liverpool Cancer Research UK, told the Times: "This will be a pivotal trial.
"If it's successful, it would make a real difference to the way clinicians behave and patients are treated."
This comes after research by the American Cancer Society which revealed that individuals who followed recommendations for cancer prevention were less likely to experience mortality as a result of several conditions.
