Overnight closed loop insulin 'improves blood glucose control in diabetes'

Patients with type 1 diabetes could benefit from closed loop insulin delivery, or an 'artificial pancreas', which has been shown to improve overnight blood glucose control.
Research conducted at the University of Cambridge found the technique to reduce the risk of hypoglycaemia during the night.
The closed loop insulin delivery was found to be safe, effective and consistent across a variety of patients in different age groups, insulin sensitivities and lifestyle conditions, according to the authors of the study, published on bmj.com.
Researchers concluded that the delivery method "may in future allow more flexible lifestyles in conjunction with improved glycaemic control for people with type 1 diabetes".
This comes after research found vegetarians to be at a lower risk of developing diabetes, as well as stroke and heart disease.
The study, published in journal Diabetes Care, revealed that vegetarians have a 36 per cent lower incidence of metabolic syndrome than meat eaters.
