Register as an Dietitian

People who do not eat meat could be at a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke, according to a new study.
Research, published in journal Diabetes Care, found a 36 per cent lower incidence of metabolic syndrome in vegetarians than meat eaters.
As metabolic syndrome is a major factor in heart disease, diabetes and stroke, these developments suggest that individuals who refrain from eating meat could be at a lower risk of these events.
Lead researcher Nico S Rizzo said that the findings demonstrate how lifestyle factors such as diet can be significant when it comes to preventing metabolic syndrome.
"I was not sure if there would be a significant difference between vegetarians and non-vegetarians, and I was surprised by just how much the numbers contrast," he said.
This follows a study, published in journal Panminerva Medica, that found pine bark medication Pycnogenol could lower blood sugar, control blood pressure and decrease the body mass index of some patients - improving the symtoms of metabolic syndrome.
