Oral MS drug seen to be safe and effective

A new orally ingested medication for multiple sclerosis (MS) has been found to delay the condition and reduce relapse rates in a two year study.
Laquinimod was found to have significant effect on the progress and relapse rate in MS patients and was also revealed to be safe and well tolerated by patients.
The findings were unveiled by the drug's developer Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, at the 63rd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Neurology.
WedMD reports Jon Congleton, vice president of Teva Neuroscience, as saying: "When people in the prime of life get hit with MS, all they can envision is that wheelchair out there waiting for them.
"The best way to keep them out of that wheelchair is by slowing disease progression. This drug did this in a safe way."
This follows news that the National Institute for Clinical Excellence is to review the clinic guidance surrounding multiple sclerosis with the Royal College of Physicians and is calling on people with the condition to take part in the review.
