Mobility in Parkinson's patients can best be improved by walking comfortably on a treadmill, according to a new study.
Research compared three types of exercise in those with Parkinson's and found that walking on a treadmill at a comfortable speed for a longer duration was the most effective way to improve mobility.
The study was presented at the 63rd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Neurology in Hawaii.
Lisa M Shulman from the University of Maryland said: "These results have important implications for how we manage Parkinson's disease, since low-intensity exercise can be done by most people with Parkinson's, and our patients frequently ask what type of exercise they should be doing."
This comes after research published in Lancet Neurology found that gene therapy could reduce Parkinson's symptoms.
Results showed that half of all patients in receipt of the treatment exhibited "clinically meaningful improvements" within six months.
