Register as an Dietitian
Tuesday 15th March 2011
Health secretary Andrew Lansley has announced that organisations such as McDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC have signed up to the Responsibility Deal, designed to tackle public health objectives.
The fast food outlets have agreed to remove trans-fats and put calorie labelling in place.
Additionally, alcohol brands such as Echo Falls and Hardys have pledged clear unit labelling, to develop a new sponsorship code and to support awareness campaigns.
Supermarkets including ASDA, the Co-operative, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose have also signed up to the wide range of measures.
The Responsibility Deal aims to get calories on menus by September 2011, reduce salt in food, remove artificial trans-fats and increase workplace health.
Andrew Lansley said: "These deals will work alongside the department's broader plans to take a bold new approach to public health. Public Health England will give local people the money and the power to improve our nation's health."
