Individuals who have survived breast cancer in the past could be at a higher risk of falling than others in their age group, scientists have said.
Research, to be published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, questioned breast cancer survivors on how many falls they experienced.
Findings showed that 58 per cent of this group had fallen in the past year, in comparison to the over-65s who had not had the condition, whose falling incidence was at 25-30 per cent.
Additionally, it is thought that the combined effect of endocrine therapy and chemotherapy increases the risk of bone fracture in those who fall.
Professor Kerri M Winters-Stone, of Oregon Health & Science University, said: "Falls in breast cancer survivors are understudied and deserve more attention, particularly in light of the increase in fractures after breast cancer treatment and the relationship of falls to fractures."
Meanwhile, researchers from the London South Bank University in the UK found that tart cherries could help athletes to recover from an intense training session at a quicker rate, aiding muscle repair.
