Patients on medication for high blood pressure must be made aware of common side effects that can occur as a result of usage, expert have said.
Leanna Skarnulis of WebMD spoke to two cardiologists and a pharmacist who said that complications from the medication such as fatigue, dizziness and a cough can arise as a result of high blood pressure medication.
Dan Jones, spokesman for the American Heart Association, told WebMD that patients can become fatigued and dizzy and it is important they are warned of this.
"If blood pressure has been elevated for a while, when the medication is taken and the blood pressure begins to come down, for a period of time there's less circulation in some of the vessels, including those in the brain. It takes time for those constricted vessels to relax," he explained.
Mr Jones added that these effects can often be combated by continuing to take the medication.
This comes after researchers from INSERM, the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research in Paris, found that patients with high blood pressure and cholesterol could be more prone to memory problems as they age.
