Cardiovascular risk factors 'increase memory loss'

Individuals with higher risk factors for cardiovascular diseases could be more prone to memory problems in later life, one expert has said.
Researchers from INSERM, the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research in Paris, found that patients with high blood pressure and high cholesterol could be more prone to memory problems as they age.
In addition, heightened cardiovascular risk factors were linked to lower cognitive function and a cognitive decline at a ten year faster rate.
Sara Kaffashian, study author, said: "Our findings contribute to the mounting evidence for the role of cardiovascular risk factors, such as high cholesterol and blood pressure, contributing to cognitive problems, starting in middle age."
Meanwhile, scientists from the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Consortium found that being a woman may not actually increase risk of dying from treatment for a severe heart attack.
It is thought that the reason more females appear to die from in-hospital heart attack deaths is down to other factors such as age and other health issues.
