Gender does not play a part in the risk of death from heart attack, researchers have found.
Scientists from the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Consortium found that being a woman may not actually increase risk of dying from treatment for a severe heart attack.
It is thought that the reason more women appear to die from in-hospital heart attack deaths is down to other factors such as ages and other health issues.
Lead author Elizabeth Jackson said: "When we adjusted for factors such as age and co-morbidities like hypertension and diabetes, women had similar mortality rates at the time of the heart attack as men."
Meanwhile, a study published in the Lancet found that a tiny wireless heart monitoring device could significantly reduce hospitalisation among heart failure patients.
Research revealed that the device, which is approximately the size of a paperclip, reduced hospitalisation in heart failure patients by 39 per cent.
