The government must realise that having epilepsy involves hidden costs, one expert has said.
A spokeswoman for Epilepsy Action said that although it is not yet clear how the upcoming welfare reforms will affect those with epilepsy, it is important the government realise that good support can make a real difference to quality of life.
Extra costs for those with epilepsy can include transport, emergency childcare and significantly higher travel insurance.
"As local councils look to make cuts, we are doing all we can to ensure that people with epilepsy don't lose the support they need," she said.
This comes after news that the government is to put £400 million into reforming mental health services in Britain, aiming to "cure" up to one million patients by 2015.
It is thought that mental health problems cost the economy £77 billion per year and the government hopes that a more "personalised" treatment will help more people rejoin the workforce.
