Doctors should be more willing to broach the topic of sexual issues with women after life-changing cancer treatment, research has suggested.
According to research, published in journal Cancer, most women prefer the medical professional to raise the subject.
Only seven per cent of those surveyed had requested advice for sexuality problems following cancer treatment, despite the fact that 42 per cent would want this type of care.
Emily Hill, lead author, said: "Anything that affects the female sexual organs will have repercussions on body image and on a woman's sex life."
"We see impact after many kinds of breast cancers or gynaecological cancers."
This comes after news that the removal of lymph nodes makes no difference to breast cancer survival.
It was found that 92 per cent of women who have undergone lumpectomies and radiation for early-stage breast cancer will survive, whether or not they have the nodes removed.
