A tiny wireless heart monitoring device could significantly reduce hospitalisation among heart failure patients, a new study has shown.
Research found that the system, which is approximately the size of a paper clip, decreased hospitalisation among heart failure patients by 39 per cent.
The implant measures pressure in a pulmonary artery and can indicate how well the condition is being treated by medication, according to the study published in The Lancet.
"Our results are consistent with, and extend, previous findings by definitively showing a significant and large reduction in hospitalisation for patients with NYHA class III heart failure who were managed with a wireless implantable haemodynamic monitoring system," wrote the authors.
This comes after findings that women whose mothers had a stroke are at higher risk of experiencing the same illness or a heart attack.
The study, published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Genetics, found that female heart patients are significantly more likely to have a mother who had a stroke than a father with the cardiovascular condition.
