New physiotherapy research will have "important implications for physiotherapy management", according to one expert.
Professor Suzanne McDonough, University of Ulster and chair of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) Charitable Trust Scientific Panel said that upcoming research will answer an important question in the right way.
The CSP has recently awarded its biggest ever grant of £249,999 to Dr Nicola Walsh, senior lecturer at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Dr McDonough said: "The Scientific Panel commended the very high quality of this application and in particular were impressed with the overall presentation and attention to detail; they especially highlighted the strength of the mixed methods approach, the statistical analysis plan and the excellent service user involvement."
This comes after PhysioFunction found that physiotherapy treatment could help those in the early stages of multiple sclerosis (MS).
It was found that strengthening the muscles that are not affected by MS could help the body compensate for those that are weakened.
