Metabolic syndrome could increase chance of memory loss

Older people with metabolic syndrome could be at a higher risk of memory loss, according to scientists.
A study, published in journal Neurology, found that those with the cluster of symptoms that make up metabolic syndrome, including high blood pressure and larger waistlines, could have an increased chance of suffering memory loss.
Participants with metabolic syndrome were found to be 20 per cent more likely to have cognitive decline than those who did not suffer from the condition.
Additionally, those with metabolic syndrome were 13 per cent more likely to exhibit decline on the visual working memory test.
This comes after researchers from the University of Pittsburgh and University of Illinois found that the memory section of the brain increased in size in older people undertaking aerobic exercise.
Those who took brisk walks for forty minutes per day, three days a week for a year were found to exhibit improvements in memory.
