Unite to 'protest against speech therapy cuts'

Protesters are to gather against eight speech and language therapist jobs being lost as a result of budget cuts.
Children and parents are planning to join Unite in a protest that will come before the Union strikes on Thursday.
Richard Munn, Unite regional officer, said that the cuts to children's speech therapy services would have a detrimental impact on some of the most vulnerable members of society.
"Undetected and untreated speech, language and communication problems can lead to low levels of literacy, poor educational attainment and difficulties finding employment," he added.
This comes after the cross-party Health Select Committee found that the planned reforms for the NHS would cause "significant institutional upheaval" without really changing its aims.
Paul Farmer, chief executive of mental health charity Mind said of the changes that past experience has taught that mental health services often bear the brunt of cuts to the health budget and that this should not be allowed to happen again.
