Statins are effective against heart attack and stroke, regardless of levels of cholesterol and systematic inflation, according to a new study.
It was previously believed that patients with higher levels of inflammation-marker C-reactive protein (CRP) may not respond as well to the drug.
However, research published in the Lancet found that patients who took the statin drug Zocor had a 24 per cent reduction in cardiovascular events and that this was round about the same for any combination of low of high CRP and LDL cholesterol.
Jonathan Emberson, researcher, told WebMD: "CRP may be useful to help a physician understand a patient's absolute risk along with other characteristics like age, sex, blood pressure, and blood lipids."
Meanwhile, researchers from the Institute of Cancer Epidemiology, Danish Cancer Society, found that loud traffic noise can increase the risk of stroke in older adults.
