Giving up smoking is unparalleled when it comes to reducing the risk of contracting cancer, according to one expert.
Dr Mark Matfield, scientific co-ordinator at the Association for International Cancer Research (AICR), said that 90 per cent of lung cancers are caused by smoking which is the hardest one to treat.
He added that the habit has been linked to increased incidence of more than ten other types of the disease.
"Obesity is the next largest risk factor, having been linked to higher rates of breast, bowel, stomach, kidney, pancreas and gullet cancer. Moderating alcohol intake comes third, as too much booze increases your risk of at least half a dozen cancers," he explained.
This comes after research published by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) revealed that Denmark is the world's cancer capital, with an estimated 326 people out of every 100,000 in the country developing the illness.
