Government healthy eating scheme is working, says DoH

Critics have claimed that the government's healthy eating initiative is failing and that it is approaching the issue in the wrong way.
However, a Department of Health (DoH) spokesperson defended the scheme, saying that it was clear the old ways of tackling the problem was not working.
The government's approach to public health, they continued, ranges from nudges to serious intervention when necessary.
"We are putting in place a public health service - Public Health England - that will give local people the money and the power to improve our nation's health. Local areas will be able to try out and evaluate innovative approaches to behaviour change," it said.
This comes after Heart UK emphasised the importance of a healthy diet in the reduction of coronary disease and other circulatory issues.
Linda Main, dietetic advisor for Heart UK, said that new studies have illuminated just how important a healthy diet is to the heart.
