Refer an Audiologist

Hybrid cochlear implants could provide those in audiology jobs with an additional option to recommend for those patients suffering hearing loss.
Scientists at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in the US believe that this technology could be used successfully as an alternative to hearing aids for those that do not qualify for a full cochlear implant.
While stimulating nerve endings in the same way as a traditional implant, fitting one of these devices will require consultation with audiologists to fine tune fitments to suit specific patient needs.
Northwestern Medicine neurotologist Andrew Fishman said: "The potential for patients with a significant amount of residual hearing, but a large amount of high-frequency hearing loss, to have an alternative to hearing aids would be a great improvement over what is currently available."
Research published by the Medical College of Georgia last year indicated that newly developed cochlear implant enabling electronics to be inserted further into the ear could improve patient outcomes.
