Despite many medical professionals airing concerns about the practise of personalised genetic testing, a new study has shown that patients are in favour of the process.
Research by the Scripps Translational Science Institute has found that not only are most people in favour of the testing, but five months after they receive results, most participants show no signs of psychological anxiety, distress or negative impact.
Personalised genetic testing uses DNA samples to predict the likelihood of individuals developing certain conditions including diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
Eric Topol, who led the study, told KPBS that most doctors are not in favour of the process as they are concerned the information would upset patients.
Meanwhile, research published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, found that that mild and moderate alcohol consumption could contribute to the risk of dementia and other cognitive impairment.
Specifically, consuming large amounts of alcohol at least monthly is an independent risk factor for impairment, almost doubling chances.
