New mobile phone app designed to complement speech therapy

Those in speech therapy jobs at a US research centre have developed a new mobile phone application to help patients apply their exercises outside of sessions.
The Hollins Communications Research Institute launched the app, which can be installed on Apple devices, and offers immediate evaluation, feedback and scores on physical speech behaviours taught by therapists.
This app therapy has been designed to complement treatments applied by the institute, including replacing faulty muscle contractions that can cause stuttering.
Commenting on the launch, institute founder and president Ronald Webster explained: "We developed the stuttering therapy app to help program participants more easily transfer skills learned in the clinical setting to real world environments.
"Along with being an excellent tool in the context of therapy, the app helps clients stay on track with their new fluency capabilities."
The release of the app follows the appearance of The King's Speech in cinemas that has been praised for raising awareness of speech problems.
Starring British actor Colin Firth, it tells the story of King George VI, who had to overcome his stutter when his brother abdicated the throne.
