Asking Parkinson's patients whether they are still able to cycle could be a more accurate test than many other more expensive ones, scientists say.
Researchers from the Netherlands have written a letter published journal Lancet that claimed that questioning a patient on their bike riding ability could provide a 'red flag' for clinicians when it comes to diagnosing which form of Parkinson's they have.
In the study patients with Parkinson's disease and also those with atypical Parkinsonism were tested using brain imaging and other examinations.
It was found that only four per cent of those with standard Parkinson's said they could no longer ride a bicycle while more than half of the participants with atypical Parkinsonism said they could not.
This comes after Parkinson's UK called for more brain donors after their 2010 campaign saw the number of people signed up to the Parkinson's Brain Donor register more than double.
